joining us for the Education
Cloud Winter 26 release Q&A session.
I'm Alek Leo
and I'll be your host and moderator today.
And I'm joined by the Product Managers
for Education Cloud.
We're here to answer your questions
that you've been asking in the community,
as well as some frequently asked questions
provided by our product managers.
Before we get started,
I just want to remind you to make
and by all purchasing decisions
on currently available technology.
This format is going to be super casual
and the to the team is here and ready
to provide answers to your question.
The first question is around
custom fields.
fields on the My Classes page?
Yeah. Oh a great question.
And the answer is absolutely.
You can add custom fields to the course
section details cards
which are on both
my classes and on course registration.
Sounds
like you've got some flexibility there.
Another custom fields question.
Will it be possible to add more fields
as search fields.
So not results
but actual search fields like
can they search by language
custom field as an example.
I love this question so much
because, you're already thinking ahead.
We are going to be shipping
some more advanced searching and filtering
functionality as part of the course
search and registration experience
in the summer 26 release.
So, keep an eye out for that,
but it's definitely coming.
So a little teaser for like,
roadmap and stuff.
So we're going to move to some questions
around holes
and blocks automation if that's cool.
So first question is will it be possible
to apply holds and blocks
per learner program.
And a little example is I failed to pay
my miner, but I paid for my major.
So I would like to continue using course
registration for my major.
But should I get blocked for my minor?
Hey, so right now Holds and Blocks
is at a profile or student profile level.
For course registration,
it cannot be managed at a program level.
But that's something we can look into
in our later releases.
If that's a very strong use case
for some of our customers.
But right now, ghost registration
is a blanket on or off situation.
And we'll we've got another question
here around holds and blocks.
Is it possible to apply a soft hold
with no restrictions?
So they don't want to stop the student,
but they would like to suggest
some tasks to be taken. For example.
So can I hold be defined
without restrictions?
Yes. The system does allow you to do that.
So when you go to the second state of the
wizard, you have to select a restriction.
You can choose not to select
any restrictions and directly
go to the next part
where you can assign some tasks for it.
So a whole definition
can be created that way.
And then you can place it on students.
But you have to then understand that any,
any restrictions that
are placed on student because of the holds
At the moment you place this hold,
that there is no check about.
is there a certain reason
why this hold has been placed?
Any hold that has been defined
without any reasons
will be applied in totality.
There's there's no check there. Right.
So you just have to worry about that.
But yes, you can completely define a hold
without a restriction.
Thank you for that detail.
Let's go back to a couple questions
around linked sections.
So how link sections should be added
to the learning program.
Will they be added to the learning program
requirements or will
they have a credit or result involved.
Or should we only consider the main course
as the driver of grades and results?
Yeah, this is a great question.
And you're getting at the answer there
in the second part of your question.
So we see linked courses
as really just one course,
even though you are creating multiple
learning courses behind the scenes.
It shows up as one course to the student
when they're registering.
And so we see that as one course
when they're, when you're adding it
to the learning program plan and assigning
that, learner program to learners.
So when you're creating your,
your link sections, only
the primary course can have a duration
and a duration unit.
So you can't give a lab
three credit hours, for example,
if it's tied to a lecture, only
the lecture can have that, that value.
So we really do see the primary course
as the driver of the grades.
And the result,
as you asked in your question.
So one final question
around the linked sections.
What's the difference between
a linked section and a Co requisite.
Yeah. Great question. Get this one a lot.
And sort of answered it
with the last question.
So one difference there is that the link
sections really is just one course.
Whereas Co requisites
they're two separate courses.
You can give two separate grades.
So that's one difference.
The other difference is in the amount
of flexibility and control you have over
which sections of one course can be taken
with which sections of another.
So with regular Co requisites
a student can pick any section.
Of course a and any section of course B
as long as they're registering for both
But with link sections you have that
additional control to say this section.
Of course a must be taken
with one of these three sections.
and match
those sections of those two courses,
or maybe if you have even more linked
courses, but you really how you're able
to specify exactly
which sections can be taken together.
So it's really helpful in the case
where you have,
chemistry biology courses
that have lab components
that maybe you need to take the lab
with the same professor as the lecture.
So there's a lot of different use cases
where you'd want to use linked sections.
But again, if you're looking to have,
you know, that grade component for both,
I would recommend Co requisites.
Thanks for the recommendation.
Sounds like you have a lot of options
based on what the set up is
and what the use cases that you mentioned.
Well that leads us to our final question
for Education Cloud.
And it's around holes in block.
So a child coming back to you.
Currently
the term enrollment is not for program.
So when the GPA is calculation is done.
If the student is enrolled
in two programs,
how would the GPA per program be handled?
A couple of times I've heard this,
but the way
you currently handle this, customers
will have to create custom fields.
If they wanted at the term level,
then it has to be created at, term.
term enrollment level, for per program.
So you can add custom fields over there.
The way GPAs calculated
it is not dependent on a particular field.
It can be stored anywhere
and then holds and blocks.
to kind of pull in data from custom fields
to be able to define your own nuts.
So that's, that's how to do it right now.
We'll look into how do you store
multiple GPAs in the data model.
Out of the box
when we look at our GPA, strategy.
So there's still options, for doing that,
which is which is awesome.
And if you're familiar with Salesforce,
obviously
you should be familiar with custom fields.
So I want to thank all our learners
for submitting the questions.
And I also want to thank Agile
and Ryan for taking their time to answer
all the great questions
that are coming through.
If you have any additional questions,
keep them coming in the idea exchange
and we'll be back for the next release.
