Nick McOwen never planned to work in technology. He studied Sociology in college, played bass in a band he describes as somewhere between Led Zeppelin and Al Green, and waited tables to pay the bills. When a spot opened up on the Salesforce team, Nick accepted the challenge. Trailhead gave him the foundation to learn the platform, and he hasn't stopped learning since. Ten years later, Nick's curiosity continues to shape his career, taking him from Salesforce Admin to building with Agentforce.
Trailhead really brought me to the point that I learned Salesforce well enough to be an admin and then I just kept learning from there because I was interested in the new technology coming out.
Nick McOwenSenior Salesforce Administrator, Alpine Intel
When Nick started thinking about Agentforce for his company, he started with his customer service team at Alpine Intel. He sat down with them and discovered that the biggest pain point was lack of time.
Before the agent, a customer service rep reviewing an account before a call could spend 10 to 15 minutes clicking through records, related objects, and notes. It was slow and fragmented, and it was happening dozens of times a day. Nick built an agent that changed that entirely. Instead of spending 10 to 15 minutes piecing together information from records, related objects, and notes, the team now receives a summary in seconds. They spend less time searching for information and more time talking to customers.
Nick involved his customer service team from the beginning, gathering requirements, testing early versions, and refining the experience together. He wanted to make sure the agent was augmenting their work, not getting in the way. The feedback has been that it has significantly increased their speed of communication and ability to review records instantly or reference information that previously lived on spreadsheets. They no longer have to click around while customers wait on the phone.
Nick is now using Agentforce Vibes to generate Apex - something he would have called impossible a year ago. He's building flows, running proof-of-concepts, and handing cleaner, faster artifacts to developers than he ever could before.
Nick never set out to become a developer. He simply kept following his curiosity, one new challenge at a time Agentforce gave him new tools, and he's using them to do more than he ever expected. For him, that's the spirit of a Trailblazer: curiosity-driven and always asking how to be of help.
