The Future Is Now: Grace Hopper 2020

Maybe this is your very first Grace Hopper Celebration (GHC). It could be your second...even third (it’s a hot ticket)! Regardless, each year the GHC is full of new faces, new companies and new ways to innovate—case in point, they’ve reimagined this year’s event into a virtual showcase.

Regardless of format, GHC promises to inspire, educate and bring together women technologists from around the globe. As we head into this year’s event, we’re reflecting on the trailblazing GHC alums who have launched their career in tech at Salesforce—our Grace Hopper Graduates!

Baula:

I remember attending my first Grace Hopper and keynote in 2016 with fellow members of the MIT Society of Women Engineers and getting completely lost among the huge booths. Grace Hopper was unlike anything I had ever been to before. It wasn’t until 2017 when I met Salesforce. A recruiter had reached out to me prior to the start of the conference, so I had the first interview slot of the day. My interviewer ended up being my manager for my internship that summer and is my current manager now!

PRO TIP: There’s a lot going on at once, so don’t forget to take some time to breathe and rest! Take advantage of being surrounded by so many awesome women and meet as many people as you can - even if it is virtually.

Natalie:

It was my junior year at Pomona College in 2015 when I attended my first Grace Hopper. I remember being at the career fair late in the evening, killing time before the bus, and figured I might as well check out a few more booths. I went up to Salesforce because I had seen in the booklet that it was listed high on some 'Best Place to Work' list. Honestly I still didn't understand what Salesforce did when I accepted the offer; I just knew that I LOVED everyone I had encountered throughout the process and getting to learn from them would be a dream. To this day my manager from my internship (who I met at GHC) is an incredible mentor to me.
Being yourself and owning your identity as a woman in any space is something to be proud of! What makes me extra proud is coming together with other women to help each other through these issues, pushing for systematic changes on a larger level, and on top of all that using this community superpower to do incredible things with technology!

PRO TIP: Be sure to take notes! There's so much to learn about technology, leadership, career, and yourself. Hear something inspiring? Write it down - it's a great resource to come back to when you can use a little inspiration later.

Krithika:

Apart from the experience I had at the Grace Hopper Conference, my experience with the team that I interviewed with was very positive. I felt that I would be valued here. To add to it, I really liked the work I knew I would be doing here at Salesforce Security.

Come talk to us at our virtual booth! I hope you can learn more about us and give us the opportunity to know about you and how we can come together. I also encourage that you check out the talks. I assure that you will come back inspired.

Niti:

My first time at Grace Hopper was in September 2018, a month later after stepping into the US soil as an international graduate student. I was both excited about the opportunities that were waiting for me and anxious to present my best foot forward at the conference.

After talking to a representative from Heroku at the booth, I strongly believed Salesforce would be a really great company to work for. I feel proud of being a woman in tech because it provides the flexibility to impact every phase of the world, be it from the healthcare industry to the automobile industry.
PRO TIP: My single piece of advice would be to just enjoy the conference and feel empowered. Don't just consider Grace Hopper as an opportunity to achieve professional goals, it is also a great time to make some long-lasting friendships and celebrate women in tech.
