Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Go to salesforce.com/in/login/ — or use your organisation's custom domain (e.g., yourcompany.my.salesforce.com). Ask your Salesforce admin if you're unsure of the URL.
Your username is typically your work email address. If you're logging in for the first time, check your inbox for a welcome email from Salesforce with subject "Verify your account" — it contains a link to set your password and enroll in MFA.
Most organisations use a custom login URL in the format yourcompany.my.salesforce.com. This is called My Domain. If you land on the standard login page, enter your company's domain name in the field provided to be redirected to your org's login page.
Click the "Forgot Your Password?" link on the login page and enter your username. A reset link will be sent to your registered email. You can reset your password without contacting an admin in most cases.
Too many failed login attempts will lock your account. Contact your Salesforce administrator to unlock it, or wait for the lockout period to expire (configured by your org's admin).
Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) adds a second verification step after your password — proving your identity with something you have (like an authenticator app) in addition to something you know (your password). Salesforce has required MFA for all direct UI logins since February 2022.
- Salesforce Authenticator app (recommended) – approve a push notification
- TOTP authenticator apps (e.g., Google Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator) – enter a 6-digit code
- Security keys (e.g., YubiKey)
Contact your Salesforce administrator — they can generate a temporary verification code or disconnect your MFA device so you can re-enroll. Admins can do this from Setup > Users.
Yes. If your organisation uses SSO via an identity provider like Okta, Azure AD, or Ping Identity, and MFA is enforced at the identity provider level, this satisfies Salesforce's MFA requirement.
Use test.salesforce.com instead of login.salesforce.com. Your sandbox username is typically your production username with the sandbox name appended — e.g., user@company.com.sandboxname.
- login.salesforce.com → Production orgs
- test.salesforce.com → Sandbox / test environments
Best practices to keep your account safe:
- Bookmark your org's specific login URL and save it in a password manager
- Never share your password or MFA codes with anyone — including people claiming to be Salesforce support
- Watch out for phishing pages that mimic the Salesforce login screen
- Enable Salesforce Authenticator for the smoothest MFA experience
