Sharing My Gratitude for Our Team in Massachusetts

By John Durocher

Before we gather around the table for Thanksgiving, I’d like to take a moment to congratulate and express my gratitude to our teams in Boston, Burlington, and Cambridge. It’s their passion, skill, and talent that has led us to be recognized as one of the Top Places to Work in Massachusetts for the fourth year in a row.

This is the season for reflecting on the past, giving thanks for the present, and planning for the future. Lately, I have been thinking of how appreciative I am for the community we have created in our hub. During the past several months, I have seen the unwavering strength of both our culture and our people. I couldn’t be prouder.

During one of the most challenging times of our lives, I’ve seen our people rally together to support our customers and local community like never before. Here are a few ways we’ve stepped up to help those around us.

Creating and distributing personal protective equipment (PPE)

As the pandemic spread, our Burlington-based Salesforce team recognized the critical need for personal protective equipment (PPE) supplies throughout Massachusetts and beyond. In partnership with the Harvard-MIT Center for Regulatory Sciences and Brigham and Women's Hospital, Salesforce employees from Commerce Cloud, the Voxel8 team, and local fabricators generously donated their time and resources to manufacture and distribute face shields. This group has delivered over 1,000 pieces of urgently needed PPE to organizations in Massachusetts (Brigham and Women's Hospitals), Kenya, Guatemala, Philippines, and Beirut. As a company, we've delivered more than 50 PPE emergency backup supply kits for organizations around the world.

Delivering powerful solutions with Work.com Shift Management

Even as we navigate our new normal, our teams at Salesforce remain focused on Customer Success, one of our core values. We recognize that companies will need to reopen at reduced capacity and manage employees as they adapt to this new environment. Leveraging ClickSoftware’s years of optimization experience, our Burlington-based team designed Work.com Shift Management. This solution addresses the need for businesses to intelligently and safely bring employees back to work while adhering to strict capacity limitations and social distancing guidelines.

Volunteering in our communities

Our Boston, Burlington, and Cambridge teams are passionate about giving back to our communities and have found unique ways to remain involved even with the physical constraints. Employees regularly contribute their time and expertise to help out with virtual professional development workshops such as mock interviews and career panel sessions for young adults. These engagements run in parallel to our local grant investments. To date, Salesforce has invested $500k+ in the area of workforce development within the BBC area and has hosted 10 Year Up interns across various business lines.

In support of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal #1: No Poverty, BBC employees have partnered with Habitat for Humanity to support affordable housing. This year, we’ve volunteered 600+ hours by building sites to create future housing options. We have also provided over $25k in grants to the organization and later this year we will be breaking ground on the first-ever Salesforce sponsored Habitat for Humanity home in Concord, MA.

As you see from the above, we have a lot to be thankful for this year. I’m deeply humbled that we’ve been recognized by The Boston Globe as one of the Top Places to Work in Massachusetts for the fourth year; however, my pride in our hub is bigger than just today’s recognition. I’m thankful to be able to call Salesforce BBC my family for the past 14 years!
