Arlington Economic Development Streamlines Customer Relationship Management Across All Organizational Units Using Salesforce.com's AppExchange

Two custom applications enable effective management of more than one billion dollars of construction projects and increased quality of service

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. — May 1, 2006 — Salesforce.com [NYSE: CRM], the technology and market leader in on-demand customer relationship management (CRM), today announced that Arlington Economic Development (AED), a department of Arlington County Government dedicated to the preservation and enhancement of an economically vital, competitive, and sustainable community, is using the AppExchange platform to customize Salesforce to manage business and sales processes across 4 organizational units. With AppExchange, AED has built and deployed custom applications and tabs to effectively track more than one billion dollars of real estate and business development projects. Using the customized and integrated Salesforce solution, AED has significantly improved quality of service and streamlined its inter-organizational project communication.

AED is one of the 20,500 companies and organizations of all sizes, industries and geographies that comprised the salesforce.com customer base as of January 31, 2006. Revenue and subscribers will be recognized as the service is delivered.

After attempting to share contacts on ACT!, AED realized it required a more robust solution that could manage business and sales processes with communications flow across 4 organizational units. As a public sector organization, AED does not fit the traditional sales paradigm, and therefore required an easily customizable CRM solution to create tools that suit its unique business needs. After completing a six-month pilot with a competing CRM offering, AED found the strain on its technical staff too intense and the cost and learning curve too steep. Salesforce became the clear choice as it stood out in integration abilities, customizability, cost-effectiveness and user-friendliness.

"Salesforce.com's on-demand CRM suit our community-based business needs, but the AppExchange stood out as the key piece for us. With the AppExchange, we were able to customize the applications in a way that captures the diverse terminology and workflow used throughout our organization rather than having to alter our business processes to accommodate the tool." said Christopher T. David, Arlington County, Chief Technology Officer.

AED used the AppExchange Platform to build custom applications to effectively manage projects and efficiently share information across organizational units:

  • REDG — custom application used by real estate development group to manage construction projects
  • Comm Group — custom application used by internal communications group to manage public relations, web enhancements, and multi-media projects across the organization.
"With Salesforce and AppExchange, there is tremendous potential for our team to go out in the field and support a specific endeavor based on the comprehensive and real-time information in the applications. We have become a much more productive and efficient organization," adds David.
