Salesforce is Named 2019 Humanitarian Company of the Year by the Red Cross of the Bay Area

Salesforce is honored to be named the 2019 Humanitarian Company of the Year by the American Red Cross of the Bay Area. On Saturday night at the 25th Annual Red Cross Gala held at City Hall in San Francisco, Allyson Fryhoff, Senior Vice President of Salesforce.org, accepted the award on Salesforce’s behalf. The Red Cross Gala is dedicated to recognizing local heroes and supporting the Red Cross mission to prevent and alleviate human suffering in the face of emergencies. Salesforce was recognized for “extraordinary long-term contributions” by the Red Cross.

“Salesforce has been an extraordinary supporter of the Red Cross for more than 17 years, donating millions of dollars and more than 11,000 volunteer hours to advance our mission, and to ensure that everyone who wants to help change the world has the tools and technology to do so,” said Gala Co-Chair Lindsey Haswell. “This year was no exception. Salesforce proved to be a tireless partner donating resources toward problem-solving and generous funds in the face of the most destructive wildfire in California’s history.”

Salesforce and Salesforce.org’s overall investment in the Red Cross exceeds $2.1 million, including $325,000 donated by employees over the course of the partnership. The Red Cross noted that in 2017, Hurricane Harvey inundated the Gulf Coast with the largest amount of rainwater ever recorded in the continental United States. In one week, Salesforce employee volunteers created an application that helped the Red Cross to disperse $225 million in financial assistance to more than 573,000 households. “The application that Salesforce developed worked flawlessly and was never stressed, even during peak load times,” said Gail J. McGovern, President and CEO of the Red Cross.

In response to the devastating fires throughout Northern and Southern California in 2018, Salesforce launched a campaign to sponsor the acquisition of a new emergency response vehicle (ERV), which would be used by the Red Cross for relief supply, food distribution and other activities during national and local disasters. The funds raised supported the purchase of a next generation ERV, as well as fuel and maintenance, during the deployment of the ERV for relief operations over the lifetime of the vehicle. The new ERV was unveiled at the Gala on Saturday evening.

“The Red Cross is a true trailblazer in the humanitarian sector, making communities safer and more resilient in the face of disasters,” said Alex Dayon, President and Chief Strategy Officer, Salesforce. “Salesforce is grateful to be honored as Humanitarian Company of the Year and proud to be a trusted longtime partner, surrounding the Red Cross with the full force of our model — technology, community, and investment — to help advance their mission.”
