Ethical Tech in Crisis: A Panel Discussion Featuring Salesforce’s Paula Goldman

James VandeHei, CEO of Axios, spoke with Salesforce's Paula Goldman

On Thursday August 6, Axios Cities author Kim Hart hosted an online conversation on how technology companies are responding to the COVID-19 pandemic, featuring former U.S. Chief Data Scientist DJ Patil, Human Rights Watch Executive Director Kenneth Roth, and Chief Ethical and Humane Use Officer at Salesforce Paula Goldman, who discussed Salesforce’s work on ethical tech development.

Goldman noted that privacy and many other considerations are critical as we develop technology to combat the pandemic. “Even though there’s no definition of responsible tech for a pandemic, we need to think about things like privacy. We need to think about how vulnerable groups [are] being affected,” she said.

The virtual event was sponsored by Salesforce, and you can watch a replay here. In addition, read more about how Salesforce infuses ethics into AI here, and what is involved in building a culture of responsible technology here.
