This week, Anthropic introduced a powerful new research preview allowing developers to delegate tasks to Anthropic’s agentic coding tool, Claude Code, directly within Slack. Claude Code makes it easy to pull crucial context from conversations straight into developer coding sessions by tagging Claude in Slack.
As Anthropic noted, “the critical context around engineering work often lives in Slack, including bug reports, feature requests, and engineering discussion. When a bug report appears or a teammate needs a code fix, you can now tag Claude in Slack to automatically spin up a Claude Code session using the surrounding context.”
“While this is a powerful use case on its own, it also signals the broader transformation underway in Slack as we become an agentic work OS. This is the future of work, where humans and AI agents partner in real time to accelerate decisions, automate work, and drive outcomes faster than ever,” said Ryan Gavin, CMO for Slack.
Innovative companies like OpenAI, Google, Perplexity, Writer, Dropbox, Notion, Cognition, Vercel, and Cursor are bringing their agents to Slack, delivering powerful AI where employees already work.
Slack: The Agentic Work OS
Deploying agents in Slack instantly makes them accessible to millions of daily users, embedding AI directly in the flow of work so people can interact with agents just as fluidly as they do with their human colleagues and enabling agents to be connected to institutional knowledge contained in conversations. This is true multiplayer collaboration, where multiple people interact with AI agents in shared channels and threads so humans and agents see the same context, build on each other’s queries, and work together on AI-generated outputs like canvases – a unique experience that’s not available on other AI platforms.
Innovative companies like OpenAI, Google, Perplexity, Writer, Dropbox, Notion, Cognition, Vercel, and Cursor are bringing their agents to Slack, delivering powerful AI where employees already work. These agents make intelligence instantly accessible in channels, threads, and DMs, from chatting with ChatGPT or Claude to asking Notion AI about content across a workspace. With Slack’s ecosystem of more than 2,600 third-party apps, customers can consolidate workflows, minimize context switching, and give teams a faster path from question to outcome.
We’ve also introduced our own agents inside Slack, including Slackbot now in preview. Slackbot is more than a tool for getting work done. It’s a personal AI partner for every Slack user, learning from context, surfacing what matters, and converting conversational knowledge into outcomes. It raises the capability of every employee and becomes the interface where human intent meets agentic execution.
We’ve enabled companies to deploy Agentforce agents directly in Slack, creating specialized AI teammates that accelerate decision-making and automate work in the flow of business. Inside Salesforce, Agentforce in Slack is already on track to save 500,000 hours a year, demonstrating the outsized productivity impact these agents can deliver at enterprise scale.
AI-Native Companies Run on Slack
Slack is where forward-thinking Agentic Enterprises and AI-native companies run their business. They understand that modern work happens in dynamic conversations between colleagues, customers, and partners in shared, open, interoperable environments where people, data, systems, and AI all view the same context simultaneously and can act on it together.
Slack has long been the connective tissue between teams within an organization – and now, it’s the connective tissue between humans and AI agents, enabling them to work together right where key decisions are made. With Slack as their agentic work OS, companies are able to move faster and innovate at the speed of AI.
