Disability Inclusion – Salesforce Joins the Valuable 500

Salesforce commits to putting disability inclusion on the leadership agenda.

Around the world, approximately 1.3 billion people live with some form of disability. They account for 15% of the world’s population, yet they are widely underrepresented in the workforce.

At Salesforce, we believe that businesses can be powerful platforms for social change and that our higher purpose is to drive Equality for All. Disability Inclusion is fundamental to this belief. We have an ambition to become the number one employer for people with disabilities, for the products we sell to be accessible by people with disabilities, and for all persons to have full and equal access to our offices, our meetings and our events and to have technology that would empower people to bring their authentic self to work with confidence.

In order to show our commitment towards ensuring an inclusive future, we have joined The Valuable 500, a worldwide call for 500 of the most influential businesses to include disability on their leadership agenda and to end biased attitudes towards disability in business. Worldwide, although 90% of companies claim to prioritise diversity, only 4% focus on being disability inclusive. Since launching at Davos 2019, global businesses such as Accenture, Microsoft, IBM, EY, Unilever, Bloomberg, Fujitsu, Virgin, Barclays and many others have joined the movement. The founder, Caroline Casey is an award winning social entrepreneur, Ashoka Fellow, and Young Global Leader of the World Economic Forum. She was diagnosed with ocular albinism as a child but was not personally informed until her 17th birthday. Since taking the life changing decision at 28 to leave her career in management consulting, Caroline has committed to pursuing the path of creating inclusion for all.

As part of our public pledge, we have committed to the following:

  • We will launch a centralized Office of Accessibility, led by a Chief Accessibility Officer, to drive thought leadership across the industry and accountability and compliance across the company.
  • We will grow representation of people with disabilities throughout the Salesforce ecosystem.
  • We will continue to develop accessible products that allow all individuals to succeed in the Salesforce ecosystem. Beyond striving to comply with industry standards, we work towards providing effective usability for our customers with disabilities.
  • We will continue to develop our Global Workspace Design Standards to focus on universal and inclusive design beyond compliance to meet the needs of all our employees and guests with disabilities.
  • We will continue to focus on improving our employee and customer experience to enhance the accessibility of our events, our internal tools and technology, and communications, and to foster an inclusive environment for all.

We are proud to take this step in our journey towards Equality for All and it is our collective responsibility to create inclusive workplaces where everyone feels valued, respected and comfortable to bring their true self and share resources in order to be successful. It is important for each of us to ask ourselves how we can get involved and be the change we want to see.
