Fujitsu and Salesforce Japan Collaborate on Personalized Healthcare Solutions

Fujitsu logo

Salesforce Japan announced in June that it will work with Fujitsu Limited, a leader in medical and pharmaceutical data and computing technologies, to create new digital solutions for the healthcare sector in the Japan market. As the first step of their collaborations, Fujitsu and Salesforce Japan will establish new, transformative digital products for insurance companies and promote the broad use of personalized insurance products in Japan.

The two parties aim to commercialize the new solutions in Fujitsu’s 2023 fiscal year.

What’s the impact: By developing AI solutions that can help predict individual disease risks, Fujitsu and Salesforce will be able to offer prospective policyholders more personalized insurance products. They will also work to create a new insurance model for Japan’s universal health care system based on personal data that covers prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis in a detailed and comprehensive manner.

These personalized insurance-based solutions are designed to help resolve societal and economic issues, including health concerns related to various diseases, increased advanced medical care costs, and the cost of living during retirement.

In-depth: Each of the companies will bring their technology and expertise to bear in the partnership:

  • Fujitsu will work with Japanese medical institutions on systems that enable the trusted use of medical data from electronic medical records — based on patients’ consent.
  • With “Fujitsu Computing as a Service (CaaS),” medical institutions will have a personalized healthcare service that detects signs of disease through advanced computing and software technologies, including AI.
  • Applying Salesforce’s Health Cloud, a CRM system focused on patient-centric digital transformation, medical institutions will be able to visualize the patient journey(1) through comprehensive integration and analysis of patient medical data.
  • Together with Health Cloud, MuleSoft and Tableau, medical institutions can integrate, automate and analyze patient data in one system, enabling patient-centered digital transformation and providing a more personalized medical experience for patients.

The Fujitsu perspective: “We are excited to start the collaboration with Salesforce Japan in the healthcare field. By leveraging our respective strengths, I am confident we can develop and provide innovative solutions to a wide range of challenges and tasks,” said Yoshinami Takahashi, Corporate Executive Officer, EVP of Fujitsu Limited. “Through this collaboration, we ultimately aim to deliver new solutions under our portfolio of ‘Healthy Living’ offerings, contributing to the transformation of healthcare in Japan and throughout the whole world.”

The Salesforce perspective: “Care is not just about one moment in time – care is longitudinal,” said Amit Khanna, SVP and GM, Healthcare at Salesforce. “In order to transition to more preventative, holistic care, the healthcare industry needs to embrace more connected, collaborative solutions and start integrating data from across different healthcare platforms to get a full picture of the patient. With this integrated end-to-end view, the healthcare industry can start working towards delivering personalized, tailored care to every patient.”
