Crowley Maritime Navigates Climate Action with Salesforce Net Zero Cloud

Crowley Maritime

Crowley is the first US-based shipping company to implement Net Zero Cloud to track and analyze carbon emissions in partnership with PwC

Crowley, Salesforce, and PwC today announced they will collaborate to enhance Crowley’s ability to measure and analyze carbon emissions across its full value chain with Salesforce Net Zero Cloud. By using Net Zero Cloud (formerly known as Sustainability Cloud), Crowley, a global marine solutions, transportation, and logistics company, will gain comprehensive insights around its emissions and the emissions of its suppliers in order to achieve Net Zero faster.

“We put transformational digital tools into the hands of our customers to give them a 360-degree view of their carbon footprint so they can take meaningful action,” said Ari Alexander, VP and GM of Salesforce Net Zero Cloud. “We’re excited to see Crowley make sustainability commitments to reach its Net Zero goals and help drive change at scale in the maritime industry. It’s been an honor partnering with both Crowley and PwC on their sustainability journey as Crowley leverages Salesforce Net Zero Cloud to prioritize data-driven climate action.”

PwC helps implement Salesforce Net Zero Cloud

To achieve best-in-class visibility into its total emissions footprint, Crowley engaged Salesforce in a partnership with PwC, a global Salesforce consulting partner, to innovate around Net Zero Cloud’s functionality. With Salesforce Net Zero Cloud, businesses can quickly track, analyze, and report reliable environmental data and take meaningful climate action.

Having a view of its carbon footprint — coupled with automated dashboards that provide real-time, actionable insights — Crowley is now able to reduce scopes 1 and 2, and will set a course to track and reduce its scope 3 emissions. Crowley estimates that it will reduce overall emissions by 4.2 million metric tons of greenhouse gases per year, or the equivalent of removing more than 900,000 cars from the road every year.

This data is essential for third-party audits, financial filings, corporate reputation, and building trust with all stakeholders.

“ESG responsibility has taken on a greater significance over the last few years as companies look to drive positive action on climate change and build a more sustainable future,” said Ian Kahn, PwC US Salesforce Practice Leader. “PwC is proud to be working with Salesforce to deliver sustained outcomes through the implementation of Salesforce Net Zero Cloud as Crowley looks to meet their net zero goals.”

Crowley embarks on a sustainability journey

Earlier this week, Crowley announced sustainability targets, committing to reaching Net Zero emissions across scopes 1, 2, and 3 by 2050 in an effort to fight climate change.

The company has also set a goal to become one of the most sustainable maritime and logistics solutions companies in the Americas. This strategy includes the use of renewable energy, the development of all-electric, zero-emissions tugboats, and the use of alternative fuels to reduce or eliminate greenhouse gas emissions. The company also formed a new energy division that will provide offshore wind services in the United States and is developing a program that will allow customers to select more sustainable fuels.

Crowley needed a single source of truth that could take emissions data from a variety of disparate resources, such as fuel consumption in company locations in 36 different countries and island territories, and see them in real-time via one integrated, unified view platform.

“Crowley’s value chain accounts for over 80% of our emissions across the enterprise. Collaboration with customers and partners like Salesforce is key to our mutual success reaching net-zero emissions using science-based standards,” said Alisa Praskovich, Vice President of Sustainability at Crowley.

In addition to Net Zero Cloud, Crowley is also driving its digital transformation with Salesforce Sales Cloud, Service Cloud, Marketing Cloud, Experience Cloud, Tableau, and Maps to transform the customer experience and connect all of its operations across the business. In addition, Crowley is also leveraging MuleSoft to unify a variety of disparate systems, including Net Zero Cloud, and automate business processes so that customers can track the location of shipments more easily. With its systems connected by MuleSoft and data tracked on Salesforce platforms, Crowley can reduce reliance on manual processes and create seamless experiences for customers, faster.
