Salesforce Sponsors UN Climate Change Conference, Urges Global Action

  • Salesforce has been named a Partner sponsor to COP26, whose mission “will unite the world to tackle climate change with the goal of securing a global net zero future”
  • COP26 is expected to be the most significant global climate conference since the 2015 Paris Agreement
  • The environment is one of Salesforce’s key priorities; the company is integrating climate action throughout its entire business

Salesforce is using its full power to accelerate the global transition to a net-zero economy. As part of that commitment, the company announced today it will become a Partner sponsor of the 26th UN Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP26).

The conference is set to take place November 1-12 in Glasgow, Scotland, and is expected to be the most significant global climate event since the 2015 Paris Agreement.

“We are delighted to welcome Salesforce to the COP26 family as a Partner for the UN climate conference taking place in Glasgow in November. Their support for the four goals of the UK’s Presidency of COP26, long-standing climate advocacy, and commitment to net zero is helping to accelerate the global transition to a net-zero future and provide an example to others,” said the Right Honourable Alok Sharma MP, President of COP26.

COP26 takes place during a critical time: with the planet in the throes of climate change, it’s more crucial than ever to bring together governments, businesses, and community leaders to increase action towards the goals of the Paris Agreement and the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change

Salesforce’s sponsorship is part of the company’s broader commitment to continue to drive policy leadership, enable customers and community partners to participate in and mobilize the climate action movement, and demonstrate the importance of digital transformation to help address climate change and reach net zero — with an ultimate goal of supporting a 1.5˚C future.

“All stakeholders have a role to play in building a sustainable future because the climate crisis demands action from every angle,” said Zahra Bahrololoumi, CEO, Salesforce UK & Ireland. “Salesforce is a net-zero operations company and this year we will reach 100% renewable energy. Alone, that is not enough. That’s why we are committed to using our voice to drive policy change and remain excited to mobilize climate action across the Salesforce ecosystem — whether by enabling our customers to achieve their sustainability goals or encouraging others to join us on the journey to a low-carbon future. The time is now.”

Salesforce is aligned to the objectives and themes of the UK Presidency of COP26, including:

  • Mitigation: Salesforce is on track to reach 100% renewable energy for its global operations by this year. Salesforce’s aim is a future in which clean and renewable energy is powering the world around the clock. This will take a suite of actions, including investing in policy and regulatory changes, technology innovation, and much more.
  • Adaptation: Salesforce knows that the costs of climate change weigh heaviest on the world’s most vulnerable communities, amplifying global inequality. To that end, the company is committed to actively advocating for clear and consistent science-based climate policies that facilitate a just and equitable global transition to a 1.5°C future. Earlier this year, Salesforce added climate as a part of the company’s public policy platform
  • Finance: Finance professionals have the ability to drive resource allocation, transparency, and accountability for all Environment, Social, Governance (ESG) issues. For climate, finance teams can shine a spotlight on the most meaningful environmental metrics and advocate for greater transparency. Earlier this year Salesforce called for mandatory climate disclosures stating that companies should be required to publicly disclose independent third-party-reviewed emissions information, covering Scopes 1, 2, and 3 as well as emission reduction goals.
  • Collaboration: Salesforce is driving forward important movements like 1T.org with the goal to conserve, restore, and grow 100 million trees by the end of 2030, and joining as a founding partner of LEAF, a new public-private coalition to mobilize $1 billion to protect tropical forests; advocating for science-based climate policies, including calling on the G7 to commit to high quality NDCs in line with a 1.5ºC trajectory; and innovating new technologies like Salesforce Sustainability Cloud for customers to track, analyze, and report reliable environmental data.

Working together for change

In this critical decade for climate action, Salesforce believes all businesses, people, and governments must unite and step up to mitigate the worst effects of climate change.

It is critical to work together to show that bold action on climate is good for the economy, instrumental for equality, and vital to the environment. On the march toward COP26, world leaders must commit to ambitious targets to limit global warming to 1.5˚C to create a vibrant, healthy, resilient, and equal future that leaves no one behind.
