- Built-in security and compliance: The data foundation must incorporate security, compliance and access permissions into the data layer itself, which ensures the agent operates within established guardrails and prevents unwarranted access to sensitive salary data or private medical histories, for instance.
- Real-time data processing: Enterprise data is living data. To ensure that autonomous agents act on timely and relevant data, the data foundation must substitute ‘batch-processing procedures’ with real-time data pipelines.
- 360-degree employee profiles: The data foundation must reconcile various employee identities, like HRIS employee ID, email address, and unique ID in a payroll system, across multiple HR point solutions, and thereby create a unified 360-degree profile that enhances the performance of the agent.

In the era of agentic AI, competitive advantage isn’t just about which AI model a company buys. What is fundamental is the data foundation that an organization builds to power these models and the synergy between human and agentic AI capabilities in their employee engagement software.
