Salesforce.com Announces sforce Starter Kit for Microsoft Visual Studio Tools for the Microsoft Office System

Sforce and Microsoft Visual Studio Tools for the Microsoft Office System connect information and applications via Web services

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - October 21, 2003 - Salesforce.com®, the world leader in software-as-service, today announced the availability of the sforce Starter Kit for Microsoft Visual Studio Tools for the Microsoft Office System. Using sforce and Visual Studio Tools for the Microsoft Office System, the Starter Kit enables enterprises to leverage their salesforce.com-based customer data within their desktop productivity applications.

As the platform on which salesforce.com is built, sforce allows enterprises and solution developers to customize, integrate and extend salesforce.com and create new on-demand business applications, without the complexity and deployment expense of software-only solutions. Now that sforce is integrated with Visual Studio Tools for the Microsoft Office System, enterprise developers can use the tools they know and skills they have to extend their customer relationship management (CRM) environment with desktop and smart client applications.

Already more than 50 solution providers, 100 enterprises and 800 developers are using sforce to extend salesforce.com and build new applications.

Included in the Starter Kit is a Microsoft Word-based Proposal Generator that eases complex document approval processes. The solution enables sales representatives to automate the process of generating sales proposals for potential customers, by automatically collecting customer data from salesforce.com and merging it into a Word proposal template. The document is then routed through a predetermined review loop, enabling instant access to the most current version of the document and allowing employees to stay up to date with document revisions.

The sforce Starter Kit for Visual Studio Tools for the Microsoft Office System contains sforce sample code and documentation for using the .NET Framework and sforce to extend the Microsoft Office System, including a Word-based Proposal Generator sample application.
