Appy the Bobcat Joins Astro and Friends

Appy the Bobcat Joins Astro and Friends

Appy the Bobcat's birthday is this month, so here's a look back at how she was created and why.

We’re posting a series of vignettes to celebrate Salesforce’s 20th birthday. Follow our digital scrapbook to get a behind the scenes glimpse of our history.

Appygail (or “Appy” as she is known to all her friends) was born March 30th, 2017 as the guide to the AppExchange Ecosystem of partners and customers. The goal was to bring a voice to the ecosystem, and bring together the qualities of the people that embody the Ohana. Appy was inspired by several key members of the Ohana, including a Salesforce MVP who is a Women in Tech founder and ultimate Salesforce connector. Positive and passionate, this customer loves to go the extra mile and help her friends learn and grow, and Appy does too.

Designed by Trailhead Senior Creative Director Domenique Sillett Buxton and Lily Glass with the AppExchange marketing team, an energetic and relatable bobcat was born. Friendly and insightful, Appy knows a lot about Salesforce and is always happy to help. Appy is a connector – if she doesn’t know the answer she’ll connect you with a friend.

Within the first day of her launch, Appy was fully accepted into the community with over 30,000 social impressions, 242 #Appy mentions, and a 25% increase in AppExchange installs. Even Marc Benioff got in on the #appyness on Twitter:

In 2018, Business Analyst and Salesforce Admin of ASM International, Shannon Zdanowicz. got the first Salesforce tattoo featuring Appy holding a big heart. “For me, [Appy] represents courage, and she inspired me to reinvent myself.”
