Every executive I speak with is asking a version of the same question:
“How do we become an AI-powered organization?”
The conversation usually starts with technology.
- Which platform should we choose?
- Which AI models should we deploy?
- Which use cases should we prioritize?
But after dozens of conversations with executives across industries, I’ve come to a different conclusion.
Technology is rarely the biggest obstacle – Leadership is.
The Transformation Gap
One observation kept surfacing while developing an executive transformation playbook for the Agentic Enterprise.
Organizations don’t struggle because AI isn’t capable.
They struggle because transformation is treated as an IT project instead of a leadership journey.
That’s a profound difference.
Deploying AI is relatively straightforward.
Changing how people work, decide, trust, and collaborate is not.
The Agentic Enterprise Changes More Than Technology
Salesforce describes the evolution from assistants to autonomous agents as the emergence of the Agentic Enterprise — where humans and governed AI agents work together across the business.
That changes much more than productivity.
It changes:
- how leaders make decisions
- how teams collaborate
- how customers interact with brands
- and ultimately how organizations create value
The organizations that succeed won’t simply deploy more AI.
They will rethink how work itself is designed.
Leadership Comes Before Technology
One principle consistently emerged from my executive conversations:
Leadership evolution must precede technology evolution.
Why? Because AI amplifies existing behaviors.
If an organization lacks:
- trust
- clarity
- collaboration
- accountability
AI simply scales those challenges faster.
Technology amplifies culture. It doesn’t create it.
The Real Unit of Transformation
Most organizations measure AI success in:
- hours saved
- costs reduced
- productivity gained
These metrics matter.
But I believe they miss the bigger question.
What do people do with the time AI gives back?
Do they spend more time:
- with customers?
- thinking strategically?
- creating?
- mentoring?
- innovating?
If not, have we really transformed anything?
Adoption Is the Real KPI
Many organizations celebrate deployment.
Few measure adoption.
But there is an important distinction. An AI solution that nobody uses creates no value.
Transformation happens when people trust the technology enough to make it part of their daily work.
That’s why adoption, not activation, is the real milestone.
The Future Leader
The playbook led me to one conclusion that continues to stay with me:
This is likely the last generation of leaders who will lead only people. The next generation will lead people and AI agents together.
That requires new capabilities, not only technical literacy.
Capabilities such as:
- curiosity
- empathy
- judgment
- adaptability
- ethical leadership
Because while AI may generate answers, leaders must still ask the right questions.
Marketing With Purpose
As Head of Marketing at Salesforce Switzerland, entrepreneur, and mental trainer, I don’t believe AI is changing what leadership is.
I believe it’s revealing what leadership has always been.
Helping people navigate uncertainty. Creating trust. Giving meaning to change.
Technology may accelerate transformation.
But leadership determines whether transformation succeeds.
Final Thought
The organizations that thrive in the Agentic Era won’t necessarily be the first to deploy AI.
They’ll be the first to help their people embrace it.
Because becoming an Agentic Enterprise isn’t a technology project.
It’s a leadership journey.
