Salesforce.com/foundation Sponsors 13th Annual Tibet House Benefit Concert in New York City

Salesforce.com supports internationally renowned work for preservation of Tibetan culture in conjunction with 4th Annual Freedom from Software event

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - February 28, 2003 - Salesforce.com®, the market leader in online CRM, announced that tonight the salesforce.com/foundation will ring in the Tibetan New Year at the 13th Annual Tibet House Benefit Concert at Carnegie Hall. Award winning performers David Bowie, Ray Davies, Laurie Anderson, Lou Reed, and Ziggy Marley will take the stage to celebrate the preservation of Tibetan culture. In tandem with the concert, Salesforce.com will host its 4th Annual Freedom from Software event tonight, a celebration with customers, partners and other associates to enjoy the success of the no-software model.

Marc Benioff, chairman, CEO and founder of salesforce.com and member of the Tibet House Board of Directors, has supported the Tibet House for many years. The Tibet House's mission is to preserve the wisdom and arts of Tibetan people in the emerging global culture. Robert Thurman, Tibet House president and professor of Indo-Tibetan Studies at Columbia University, values Benioff's endeavors to integrate business with the community and also sits on the salesforce.com/foundation Board of Directors.

"What I have learned from these people [Tibetans] has forever changed my life, and I believe their culture contains an inner science particularly relevant to the difficult time in which we live," writes Thurman. Salesforce.com/foundation partners with the Tibet House, His Holiness the Dalai Lama, the Department of Education, and the Tibet Fund to support the preservation of Tibetan culture and empower the Tibetan people with technology. Since 2000, in addition to its work with the Tibet House, the Foundation has given over $135,000 to the Tibet Fund, an organization aiming to preserve the culture and the identity of the Tibetan people. These funds have been used for two primary projects including provisions for computer labs in eight schools for Tibetan children and technology for each of the 32 Tibetan settlements in India and Nepal to enable them to better communicate with each other, the outside world and the government in Exile.

Through these projects, the Foundation helps support and strengthen the Tibetan refugee communities in India and Nepal by providing technology for education and communication. Thousands of Tibetan youth and other community members are now communicating with each other and across the world daily via technology. These youth will also soon communicate with youth of other cultures through collaborative projects with other salesforce.com/foundation supported nonprofits such as the e-pal exchange project with students in Hawaii. In this project, Tibetan and Hawaiian youth will be introduced to each other across the miles, learn about different ways of life, discuss issues of local and global importance, and make new friends.
