Using Sun Microsystem's leading portal technology and Java-based Web services, enterprises can create powerful portal solutions that quickly impact the bottom line - at a fraction of the time, cost, and complexity of software-only solutions
SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - September 16, 2003 - Salesforce.com®, the world leader in delivering software-as-service, and Sun Microsystems, Inc. (Nasdaq: SUNW) today announced the availability of the sforce Portal Toolkit for Java System Portal Server, a simple, effective solution for companies to build best-of-breed portals that quickly impact the bottom line by providing executives and business users with key insight into customer activity.
The sforce Portal Toolkit for Java System Portal Server leverages Sun Microsystem's industry-leading portal software, Java-based Web services, and the sforce client/service platform. Developers can use the skills they have and the tools they love to create powerful portal integrations in a fraction of the time needed for software-only solutions. This integration of salesforce.com S3 and Sun's Java System Portal Server allows the enterprise to extend its customer relationship management (CRM) environment to meet custom requirements, without the complexity and cost of software-only architectures, providing maximum benefit at minimum overall cost.
Using this new toolkit, enterprises can combine the power and simplicity of sforce with the Multichannel Customer Service Capabilities enabled by the Java System Portal Server. Built on J2EE and secured with advanced network identity capabilities, salesforce.com's secure Sales Portal provides location management and access to critical customer information over any device, anytime, anywhere. The Sun and salesforce.com solution can create a synchronized customer experience across sophisticated business process and organization requirements.
"Salesforce.com and Sun are dedicated to helping customers immediately benefit from their application investments, without cost and complexity," said Marc Benioff, chairman and CEO of salesforce.com. "The sforce Portal Toolkit for Java System Portal Server effectively extends salesforce.com S3 into the portal environment so that enterprises can create the best possible software-as-service systems to support their unique processes, avoiding technical, financial or licensing headaches associated with software-only solutions."
"Many corporations and developers are interested in gaining the benefits of integrating multiple channels across all touch points," said John Fanelli, senior director of Java System network identity, communications and portal products, Sun Microsystems. "In conjunction with salesforce.com, we developed the sforce Portal Toolkit for Java System Portal Server to allow enterprise developers and IT professionals to quickly implement Sun-based portal solutions. These solutions allow customers to enjoy the benefit of reduced complexity, cost and development time without sacrificing integration and extension capabilities."
Immediately available through www.sforce.com, the sforce Portal Toolkit for Java System Portal Server provides developers with sample code, documentation and an online community. These resources enable sforce developers to quickly implement Sun-based portal solutions that provide access to critical customer information stored in salesforce.com S3. Executives and business users can now access, track and share relevant real-time information in a completely customized portal environment. This environment supports end-to-end business processes in sales, marketing, finance and other customer-facing departments. To ensure that developers have all the necessary resources and support to immediately begin integration projects, an online community message board for the toolkit will be available at sforce.com.
As the world's first client/service application platform, sforce allows enterprises and solution developers to extend salesforce.com and create new on-demand business applications. As the platform on which salesforce.com S3 is built, customers can use sforce to customize, integrate and extend their salesforce.com CRM deployments, as well as build other online business applications.
Launched in conjunction with BEA (NASDAQ: BEAS), Borland, Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT), and Sun (NASDAQ: SUNW), sforce lets developers use the tools they know and love to rapidly build solutions, with lower cost and complexity than software-only alternatives.
