Magma Design Automation Leverages Salesforce.com's Appforce to Create, Deploy and Manage Five Business-Specific On-Demand Applications

Leading chip design solutions company uses the Appforce on-demand platform as the hub for sales campaigns, product development, and finance and administration activities

SAN FRANCISCO — October 3, 2005 — Salesforce.com [NYSE: CRM], the technology and market leader in on-demand customer relationship management (CRM), today announced that Magma Design Automation (NASDAQ: LAVA), a provider of semiconductor design software, has enhanced its Salesforce deployment by leveraging the Appforce platform to create, deploy and manage five new business-critical applications. Appforce has enabled Magma to extend its Salesforce.com deployment beyond CRM. Magma used Appforce to build and launch on-demand applications that handle activities including sales campaign management, product development, product cataloguing, finance and administration tasks, and document management. Appforce unites all of Magma's on-demand applications with a single data model, single security model and a single user interface. With Appforce, Magma staff can seamlessly switch among and share data across all five applications. Magma hopes to post their applications to the AppExchange.

Magma Design Automation is one of the 16,900 companies of all sizes, industries and geographies that comprised the Salesforce.com customer base as of July 31, 2005.

"Salesforce.com has raised the on-demand applications bar even higher with the breadth and depth of Appforce's capabilities," said Chip Vanek, director of Corporate and CRM Applications at Magma. "Appforce let us rapidly design and deploy five applications that we use to conduct day-to-day business. Everything we deployed was created and launched by our own employees. Appforce has made it easier to extend our Salesforce deployment into other areas of our company."

Magma is using Appforce to launch five unique on-demand applications built with the Appforce Builder toolkit, including:

  • Sales campaign management — Comprehensively tracks and reports on all phases, resources and personnel related to sales cycles
  • Product development — Monitors and reports on all product development activities including build phases, testing, bug fixes, code merges and customer change requests
  • Product cataloging — Allows sales staff to search product inventory by criteria including description, pricing, discounting, configuration options and number of licenses
  • Finance and administration — Enables finance and legal personnel to generate reports on opportunities, payment schedules and contract deliverables
  • Document management — Provides complete version tracking functionality and permission-based access to documents with specific security access requirements
"Appforce has given our organization better visibility into sales campaigns and product development," said Vanek. "As a result, we've been able to accelerate the delivery of advanced software capabilities to our customers."
