Picture a retailer’s busiest week of the year: Holiday shoppers are lined up and most of the associates working the floor just started their job last week. There was no time for a multi-day training program. In fact, there was barely enough time for a full shift’s worth of onboarding before associates were expected to run a register, answer customer questions, and keep the line moving.
For retailers, this is a reality every November, and it’s where most point-of-sale systems fall short. New hardware means new muscle memory. New software means a new interface to learn, often while a manager hovers nearby troubleshooting logins. Multiply that by hundreds of temporary associates across hundreds of stores, and training time becomes one of the biggest costs of the season.
That’s the exact problem the new collaboration between Salesforce and HP solves. Salesforce POS now runs on HP’s retail hardware lineup, including the HP Engage One Pro G2, HP Engage One G2 AIO, HP Engage 10.1″ Touch Display, HP Engage 6.6″ Display, HP Engage Go 10, and HP Engage Go 13.5. Here’s what that means for retailers.
Familiar hardware. Simple software. Faster ramp-up.
For retailers already running HP Engage devices, there’s no new hardware to unbox and no new interface for associates to puzzle through on day one. The device in their hands is the same one they’d use anywhere, paired with a point-of-sale interface designed to be intuitive from the first login.
This significantly speeds up training time. A new associate doesn’t need to learn a new device and system at the same time. If the hardware is already familiar, and the software is easy to navigate, the only thing left to learn is the store itself. What used to take days of onboarding can now take just a few hours.
HP built the Engage line for retail floors, with devices designed to hold up to daily use whether they’re mounted at a fixed checkout or moving with an associate through the aisles. Paired with a point-of-sale system built for the same fast-paced environment, retailers get a setup where hardware and software work from the same playbook instead of fighting each other.
“Retailers need more than great devices. They need technology that is easy to deploy, simple to manage, and intuitive for associates to use,” said Cliff Gumkowski, Vice President, Retail and Industry Solutions, HP Inc. “By combining HP’s retail solutions and services expertise with Salesforce’s modern POS capabilities, we’re helping retailers reduce operational friction, accelerate associate readiness, and deliver better experiences for both associates and customers.”
Five capabilities. One associate experience.
As of Aug 31, 2026, Salesforce POS’s In-Store Cash & Carry capabilities are generally available on HP hardware — all built to be picked up quickly, not just used eventually.
- In-store checkouts — Any associate, on any device, can complete a full transaction from anywhere on the floor. No separate register training, no separate workflow to memorize.
- Clienteling — Customer profiles and purchase history are one tap away, so even a brand-new associate can make a relevant recommendation without months of product knowledge under their belt.
- Cash management — Cash drawers get tracked and reconciled directly within the POS, with a process simple enough that a new associate can follow it correctly on their first close.
- Payment integration — Every payment method a customer expects is already built into the checkout flow, so there’s nothing extra for a new hire to configure or troubleshoot.
- Peripherals connectivity — Scanners, receipt printers, and other in-store hardware connect without extra setup, so a store can bring a new associate online at a register in minutes, not hours.
Each of these capabilities was designed with the same idea in mind: Turning new hires into productive associates fast is better for the store, the customer, and the associates themselves.
Seasonal spikes? Tight deadlines? No problem.
Every retailer eventually deals with a seasonal spike, a round of new hires, or a store opening under a tight deadline. The difference between a smooth ramp-up and a rocky one usually comes down to how much associates have to learn before they can actually help a customer. By pairing Salesforce POS with hardware retailers already have and software built to be intuitive from the start, Salesforce and HP are minimizing in-store friction. Associates spend less time learning the system and more time bringing value to customers.
