Standard Web technologies
Force.com pages use a standard model-view-controller (MVC) design, HTML, and other Web technologies such as CSS, AJAX, and Adobe Flash and Flex.
Pre-built components
Force.com comes with 60 predefined components that can be assembled with minimal coding in building-block fashion. Some of these components implement common Salesforce CRM interface elements, and others make new features available, such as AJAX-based partial page refreshes.
Controllers
Controllers provide the underlying business rules for the interface as well as the “connective tissue” between the application’s page presentation and the underlying data.

Adobe Flash Builder for Force.com makes it easy to add drag and drop, data visualization, signature capture and other powerful UI features to your application. The development environment is tightly integrated with Force.com , making it fast and easy to build rich internet applications that run entirely in the cloud.
Desktop and off-line applications
Salesforce.com and Adobe have partnered to make it easy to build desktop applications that can run while on or off line. A local database gives users access to their application where ever they are. When they get back on line the data is synchronized between the desktop and the Force.com application in the cloud.
