Making a difference with everything we do

Salesforce is committed to environmental responsibility throughout our business operations. From our office buildings to our events, we’re constantly looking for ways to reduce our impact on the planet.

We have committed to
achieve net-zero carbon
emissions by 2050.

Environmental policy and reporting

We’ve set high levels of environmental standards for all areas of our business and aspire to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2050. Read our environmental policy to learn all about our sustainability guidelines.

We closely measure and analyze our global environmental performance to inform our reduction programs and disclose our carbon emissions annually to the Carbon Disclosure Project. We publish a comprehensive sustainability report every two years which addresses the commitments and practices that are part of our efforts to build a sustainable company and provide our customers with the resources and products to do the same. As a supplement to these reports, we release our key environmental metrics annually.

Renewable Energy

While we are widely recognized for the environmental efficiencies our multi-tenant technology model delivers, we know we can do more. We see the development of renewable sources of energy as an important part of our sustainability strategy, and we believe the cloud should be powered by clean sources of energy. That’s why we have committed to eventually source 100% of our electricity from renewable energy across our global operations. We’re making progress by supporting renewable energy projects, advocating for clean energy, and partnering with likeminded organizations.

Data center operations

Data center efficiency is at the heart of our sustainability strategy. By carefully considering our platform design and architecture, we can maintain small hosted footprints within data center facilities around the world. Our footprint is so small thanks to the efficiency of our multi-tenant platform and how we manage our data center operations. We select our data center partners for their environmental and energy efficiency, and we closely monitor our data center performance.

Office buildings

We’ve embarked on a journey to minimize the environmental impacts—such as energy, water, and waste—in our office buildings. We are proud to be the first software company to participate in the LEED Volume Program, which means that all of our large build outs globally will be LEED certified. The U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System is the nationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction, and operation of high-performance green buildings.

Employees

Earthforce is a group of volunteer employee champions dedicated to promoting and celebrating environmental responsibility at Salesforce.

Earthforce members raise awareness around key issues like energy conservation and efficiency, recycling and composting, responsible purchasing, low-carbon commuting, and much more. They also identify and support the implementation of solutions that help Salesforce operate in a more environmentally sustainable way. By leveraging the power of our employees, both in the office and at home, we’re creating a greener world for all.
