Email list FAQs

An email list is a collection of email addresses of individuals who have given permission to a business or organization to send them marketing communications, newsletters, or updates.

An email list provides direct access to interested prospects and customers, enabling personalized communication, fostering loyalty, driving repeat sales, and acting as a controlled marketing channel.

Ethically build lists through opt-in forms on websites, content upgrades (e.g., e-books), lead magnets, webinars, and in-person sign-ups with clear consent. Make sure unsubscribe options are available and effective.

A high-quality list leads to better open rates, click-through rates, conversions, improved sender reputation, and reduced bounce and unsubscribe rates.

Maintain by regularly cleaning inactive or invalid addresses, segmenting subscribers, and consistently providing valuable content to keep engagement high.

While possible, buying email lists is dubiously ethical at best as you are essentially paying for access to an audience who did not directly consent to sharing their email with you. It is also generally not recommended at a purely tactical level, as it often leads to low engagement, high spam complaints, poor deliverability, and can damage sender reputation.
